Journaling Days 1 and 2 of the detox with modifications and recipes.

Before the detox

Leading up to a detox, I try to clean up my diet so that its not a shock to my system. Since I actually eat pretty healthy most of the time, this is usually dropping out smaller bad habits like too much coffee, too many carbs, or the chocolate chips I occasionally snack on in the evenings. Skipping this step usually causes me to suffer from the "detox flu". This can include fatigue, headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle aches, fever, and chills. In my case, it is usually an unrelenting migraine. I used to push through it knowing I'd feel better in a few days but I've since designed the Pre-Detox program (e-book). I HIGHLY recommend that you follow this program before you start your detox. It will be worth the wait.

As the Pre-Detox comes to an end, I make sure that I have gone shopping and have what I need in the house. The first few days, I modify the detox a bit. I'm not big on what I think of as "faux-fasting". Since the program calls for a Core Support shake in the morning, this breaks my fast. I may have this early or wait until mid-morning. I also like to incorporate a celery or green juice in the mid-morning. If you don't own a juicer, there are a couple of options on my AMAZON Detox shopping list. I make vegetable soup with cabbage, root vegetables, and whatever else I have. The batch I cooked at the time of this blog was pretty amusing because I used root vegetables including beets, but no tomatoes. So, it turned out sort of neon red from the beets. (Side note: beets are great for thinning the bile which will facilitate your detox.) I will eat this during the first 2 days. I don't add protein initially, but optionally will add chopped chicken breasts later in the week. I will also include some raw veggies or organic kale chopped salad with homemade dressing (from the booklet). In other words, I eat, but it is easily digestible or adds the high fiber of the raw veggies.

Here are some excerpts from a detox in 2024...

Day 1

I started this detox on a Monday. Frequently, I start Wednesday evening so my first meal is Friday night. Also, if the detox flu hits me, it will line up with the weekend.

I'd been up to 3 coffees a day and a new Starbucks just opened up en route to the office, so this was going to be my biggest hurdle. So, I started my day with herbal tea. I used a mandarin orange spice which did have caffeine knowing I'd already significantly reduced my caffeine by cutting the coffee. I had 2 cups of tea this day.

I juiced the night prior (celery, cucumber, greens, and beets with a dash of carrot/apple). I have half of this mid-morning, then the other half late in the afternoon.

I'm hungry today probably due to the over indulgences of my anniversary dinner last weekend. So, I have some soup around 11:00 am, then the kale salad at 3:00.

After teaching yoga, I had some more of the soup. Then, mixed my Core Support with unsweetened coconut milk.

Day 2

I found I was not missing my coffee as much this morning. I had 1 cup of the same tea as yesterday. However, at lunch, I mixed up a MudWater instead. What is mudwater? Thanks for asking.

It is a blend of masala chai with Lion’s mane for focus, Chaga, and reishi to support a healthy immune system, cordyceps to promote natural energy, turmeric, and cinnamon for their antioxidants, and cacao for mood and energy. It’s 100% organic and there’s zero sugar and no sweeteners added with just 1/7 of the caffeine in a cup of coffee.

I highly recommend trying it! (click on the word MudWater above) When you are not on the detox, it makes an amazing latte! Anyway, I had fallen off my MudWater wagon, so this was the perfect time to get back on.

Lunch was again the kale salad. Did I mention that I am a lazy cook? I don't like to have to think about what I'm going to eat and I don't want to cook often. I won't add the animal protein until tomorrow, so I made the soup and salads for two days.

That being said, I really like some of the recipes in the manual that comes with the Core Restore kit. I'm looking forward to the lentil stew, the spaghetti squash marinara, not to mention the chia pudding (I do require an intervention when it comes to chia pudding because I really like it!) My son is pretty darn happy when I do this detox because he likes the recipes. However, you are always fine with plain grilled chicken and veggies.

Day 3

Detox flu kicked in and the migraine was awful. On day 4, I realized the error of my ways, took a step back and spent 2 weeks following my own advice (yes, sometimes I don't) and pre-detoxed off all of the coffee.

Day 1...again

I restarted the detox as before, but this time I was off all caffeine, sugar, and starch. This time it was smooth sailing. In fact, things went so well that I continued for an additional week. I lost 8 pounds, my skin looked great, I was sleeping fantastic.
