The body heals during sleep. Without adequate sleep, the body struggles to recover from injuries, acute illnesses, and chronic conditions.
Sleep is crucial for mood and brain function. A lack of quality sleep will stimulate higher cortisol levels, leading to memory, concentration, and learning difficulty. During chiropractic school, I read that a lack of sleep could cause one to lose up to 40% of one's ability to recall information while, conversely, adequate sleep improved recall by up to 40%! I never pulled an all-night study session again! Poor sleep has, also, been associated with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.

Sleep interference has many causes including anxiety, pain, noise, light, and temperatures (too hot or too cold).
Why your mattress matters...
We've all experienced a horrible night's sleep on a terrible mattress or couch. We've all heard the metaphor that if you throw a frog in boiling water, it jumps out but if you place it into tepid water and slowly increase the temperature it will boil to death.
